Who we are

Smart Comms is over 15 years old and started life as a communications business, which is still at the very heart of what we do offering an exciting mix of virtual telephone numbers, call management, broadband, VoIP & office telephone systems. However in recent years and due to high demand, we now also provide digital solutions incorporating websites and SEO strategies for our clients, and to date we’ve launched over 750 websites! This role sits within the digital team.

Working with all types of start-ups, small, medium and large sized companies, our extensive portfolio of products and services are designed to help increase our clients’ sales opportunities, drive leads and add real, measurable value to our clients’ businesses. With over 5,000 active clients in total across the UK & beyond, it's a busy business!

This year we moved into our purpose built, modern HQ in Dibden Purlieu, SO45 4PX (a stone’s throw from the New Forest!).

This role sits within our Media Services team, which encompasses website design and digital marketing.

We’re good at what we do, we’re good at SEO and due to this success and an ever-increasing workload we need to add to our already talented team of 6 front end designers and SEO experts. This really is a varied and challenging role. As a Website Producer you’ll learn all about website design & SEO.

You’ll provide support to the Designers with Ad-Hoc tasks and Account Directors in the results of websites and what they’re achieving, and how to get more! There’s a great team here and loads of support.

Who you are

You could be from a technical OR design background, to us that doesn’t matter in so much as we’ll train you. What matters to us is your passion for great looking usable websites, have a very keen interest in the marketing of those sites, and are happy working in a fast-paced environment.

We’re looking for someone to come in and support the designers in their day-to-day duties, and also learning website design & SEO.

Most of all we’re looking for a positive, can-do type of attitude where you don’t mind rolling your sleeves up and getting stuck in.

Skills this role needs you to have...

An understanding of:

  • How a web page is built from UX through to technical build & SEO
  • Basic skills in HTML and CSS
  • Photoshop or similar image editing software experience
  • Experience or an interest in on-page SEO techniques both technical & commercial

Desirable but not essential as these can be taught:

  • WordPress page builder knowledge (SiteOrigin)
  • JavaScript
  • Excel knowledge and data manipulation
  • Adobe Creative Cloud or similar design/layout software
  • Google Analytics implementation, including goals and reporting
  • Excel knowledge and data manipulation
  • An understanding of UX principles

Duties:

  • Find suitable imagery for the website
  • Insert content (& imagery) to the built / designed website
  • Carry out the lower-level Ad-Hoc tasks in the Media team, comprising of but not limited to:
    • Undertake basic content amends, uploading / changing content & imagery on a website
    • Set up email accounts & forwarders – liaising with the client, setup Google Business Profiles, Purchase domains
    • Build new pages using our website page builder in WordPress
  • Act as a Digital Marketing junior
    • Gather stats for SEO reports
    • Support Account Directors & Designers
    • Proactively undertake Screaming Frog crawls and implement fixes
    • Reactively implement fixes from Ahrefs website crawls
    • Learn Google Tag Manager, setup tags, events and how to link properties between Google’s services
    • Learn Google Analytics 4 and how to extrapolate data to provide a report
    • Learn how our localised & personalised SEO plugin works, to undertake changes in landing pages, and 301 pages if necessary
  • In time learn Google AdWords, campaign setup and optimisation
  • Undertake Pre & Post live website checks for the Designers
  • Learn Core Web Vitals and how to optimise a website for speed
